Community
Improvement Through
Volunteer Service
The GFWC Junior Woman’s
Club of Springfield (est. 1952) is a non-profit group of diverse women
whose primary goal is to work together to raise money to support a
number of charitable endeavors both locally and abroad.
Like everyone these days, our club members lead very busy lives, but we
all agree that it’s important to set aside time to have fun, meet
new
friends, and make a difference in our community.
JWCS
sponsors several fun-filled events each year, such as our “Make It,
Bake It, Sew It, Grow It” talent auction, Shop ‘Till you drop
(featuring local home-based businesses and crafters), 5th
& 6th grade dances, Halloween Parade on Saxer,
Easter Egg Hunt, and gift wrapping at Borders Books & Music.
Our club also honors outstanding local high school seniors from both
Springfield High School and Cardinal O’Hara High School twice a year and sponsors the Doris Monaghan Allied
Health Scholarship, which is awarded to a local high school senior
pursuing a college career in a science-related career.
Aside from fundraising, our club members also enjoy getting together
for our monthly business meetings, crafts, fun day/weekend trips, and
Saturday night out activities.
We also have a great May Dessert Meeting at a local restaurant with
lots of treats, and our club year concludes with an end of the year
banquet to celebrate the amazing accomplishments throughout the year.
President’s message:
The GFWC Jr. Woman's Club of Springfield is an incredible
group of dedicated and caring women who strive to make our community a
special place. Over the next two years, I am looking forward to
working together to help our community thrive, raise money for charity,
and continue to build friendships and have fun. The charity I have
selected for the 2008-2010 term in the Debbie Pieri Angel Foundation.
This local charity reaches many different kinds of people in need of
help. Our fundraising efforts will benefit individuals and
families who have been severely affected by terminal disease or a
life-altering catastrophe.
Thank you for your continued dedication and selflessness.
Together we can make a difference.
Truly Yours,
Jolie N. Daly
President 2008-2010
