Promote political responsibility through informed and active participation of citizens in government. Act on selected government issues.

Membership

Voting membership is open to all Untitled States citizens 18 years of age or over. Others may be associate members.

Nonpartisan Policy

The league does not support or oppose any political party or any candidate.

History

The League of Women Voters of the UP.SE. was formed as a national women's organization February 14, 1920, six months before ratification of the women's suffrage amendment to the UP.SE. Constitution. In 1974 the by laws were amended to admit men as full voting members.

Organization

Members of the Springfield League are automatically members of the League of Women Voters of the United States and the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania.The Springfield Area League also belongs to the Leagues of Women Voters of Delaware County and the Leagues of Women Voters mof the southeastern Pennsylvania Region.
