Welcome to the Tax Office
On behalf of the
Township of Springfield this information is intended to familiarize you
with the billing procedure for properties located in Springfield
Township, Delaware County. A chart outlining the billing dates and
payment periods is provided. All Real Estate taxes and the Sewer fees are
subject to a 2% discount if paid within two months of the billing date
(excluding Refuse). There is a two month face period, and
a 10% penalty if paid after four months from the date of the bill.
The Township and School Tax bills are
mailed to the property owner. The County Tax may be sent directly to the
mortgage company. Remember to forward all tax
bills to the mortgage company if funds are held in escrow.
Properties connected to the sewer
system are billed a Sewer Rent Fee based on the amount of water consumed
in the prior calendar year, at $4.25 per thousand
gallons. If you have a pool on your property, you can apply for a pool
credit on your sewer bill.
By law, all taxes and fees are the
responsibility of the taxpayer. The PA Local Tax Collection Law (72 P.S.
5511.7 Section 7) states: "Failure to receive a tax notice
does not relieve any taxpayer from liability for prompt payment of taxes
imposed by the taxing district, and such taxpayer shall be charged with
the taxes as though he had received notice. If you do not receive your
bill within
a reasonable time period after
the billing dates. PLEASE CALL the proper tax office."
Residents who qualify for the 2008
Pennsylvania Property Tax Rebate, and whose total income does not exceed
$15,000.00, you will then be entitled to a $75.00
rebate on their refuse fee, and a $25.00 rebate on the sewer bill after
current tax bill has been satisfied. 50% of Social Security is excluded
as income.
2007-08 School Tax bills offer a three payment option for Homestead
approved properties. There are no discounts on installment payments.
The first payment made by August 31st declares the intent for
installment payments. If the second or third payment is missed, the balance amount becomes
due at penalty, and installment payments will not be offered the
following year. All taxes must be paid by December 31st.
All unpaid real estate taxes will be
returned to the Delaware County Tax Claim Bureau in Media for collection
no later than January of the following year. All unpaid
sewer rent and refuse fees will be filed as liens against the property
with the Delaware County Office of Judicial Support.
The Township Tax books close for
collection of taxes by December 31, 2008.
