The GFWC Junior Woman’s Club of Springfield (est. 1952) is a non-profit group of diverse women whose primary goal is to work together to raise money to support a number of charitable endeavors both locally and abroad.
Like everyone these days, our club members lead very busy lives, but we all agree that it’s important to set aside time to have fun, meet new friends, and make a difference in our community.
JWCS sponsors several fun-filled events each year, such as our October Open House, “Make It, Bake It, Sew It, Grow It” talent auction, Halloween Parade on Saxer Avenue, Applebees' breakfast, Bowl-o-Rama, Bingos, and Monte Carlo Nights
Our club also honors outstanding local high school seniors from both Springfield High School and Cardinal O’Hara High School twice a year and sponsors the Doris Monaghan Allied Health Scholarship, which is awarded to a local high school senior pursuing a college career in a science-related career.
Aside from fundraising, our club members also enjoy getting together for our monthly business meetings, crafts, and fun day and Saturday night out activities, service projects â blankets, breast Cancer pillows, and meal preparations.
We also have a great May Dessert Meeting at a local restaurant and our club year concludes with an end of the year banquet to celebrate our amazing accomplishments throughout the year.
The GFWC Jr. Woman's Club of Springfield is a great group of women, who make a difference in the Springfield community and beyond through our community service, fundraising events and social activities.
Over the next two years, we will be holding some BIG and small events to help raise money for Cradles to Crayon (C2C) and Philabundance as well as our other local charities.Â
Cradles to Crayons (C2C) was launched in Boston in 2002 and opened its Philadelphia location in 2006. C2C provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive â at home, at school and at play. They supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need.Â
Philabundance was created in 1984 with the simple belief that no man, woman or child should go hungry. They serve 9 counties in the Philadelphia and New Jersey area and seek to drive hunger from these communities today and end hunger forever.
I hope you will be able to join us to support some of our events over the next 2 years by becoming a member of the JWC or coming to one of our awesome events!
Carole McManus, President 2016-2018
